Welcome to the website of the First Lady of the Republic of Suriname,

H.E. Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry, the First Lady was born on October 27, 1980 in Suriname.

Since 2020, our First Lady has shattered barriers, sparking a revolution in mental health and personal growth with transformative programs ‘How We Feel’ (Hoe Wij Ons Voelen) and ‘Me Time’. Her groundbreaking work is not just changing lives today-it’s forging a powerful legacy that will inspire and uplift generations to come.

H.E. is dedicated to making a lasting impact for the best results for future generations.

She graduated with multiple masters, respectively from the Vrije University Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the Anton de Kom University in Suriname.

H.E. is a lawyer by profession. She is a dynamic, driven, results-focused attorney with a passion for justice.

Our First Lady is an energetic and approachable leader, natural collaborator and mentor.  H.E. thrives on bringing people together, empowering them and getting the job done. She fosters  open communication and creates a safe and supportive environment where individuals can excel in their personal development and careers for our beloved country Suriname. With a relentless “get-it-done” attitude, our First Lady is shaping a brighter future for us.

Our First Lady is also chair of the Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN). This organization, which includes First Ladies and spouses of CARICOM’s heads of government, works to promote health and well-being of women, adolescents and children in the Caribbean.

In addition our was elected and appointed a member of the Advisory Board to the UN Secretary General on Zero-Waste in April 2023. This board plays an important role in supporting zero-waste initiatives in the context of sustainable development. As a member of the Advisory Board, our First Lady promotes zero-waste projects and initiatives while sharing best practices in our Country, the region and worldwide.
