In the run-up to the start of the new school year, the Institute of the First Lady organized a back-to-school activity with more than 100 children. The day started with educational information from the Military Police, the Suriname Fire Department, the Youth Affairs department of the Suriname Police Corps and the Surinamese Red Cross. After this, the children could enjoy sports and games. The activities conclude with a basic course in chess and music.

The First Lady was pleased to see how the children enjoyed the different games. At the end of the day, each child received a school kit and school uniform to take home.

First Lady Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry would like to thank everyone who helped make this back to school activity a success, in particular the district commissioner of Wanica North-West who made a location available and also the volunteers from The Red Cross.

She wishes all pupils and students the best of luck with the new school year. Put your best foot forward and always try hard.
