The Organisation of African First Ladies of Development (OAFLAD) held a #WeAreEqual: Amplifying Change Through Collaboration event yesterday in New York. The #WeAreEqual campaign brings together African first ladies and partners to advance gender equality and close the gender gap worldwide.
The lineup of speakers included several impressive women. The First Lady of Suriname and chair of the SCLAN, was honored to give a presentation about her work, specifically the Be Your Own Hero project.
The #WeAreEqual campaign highlights an essential truth: we are equal and have always given our all. Our healthcare, education, economic opportunities, and freedom from violence must also be equal. By working together, we can reduce or even eliminate these barriers.
“It was a special moment for me to participate in this event and stand in solidarity with our African brothers and sisters in this campaign. I thank the organization for inviting me to participate.”
