In connection with 160 years of the abolition of slavery, a two-day traditional costume exhibition was held in De Hal. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi and First Lady Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry were guests at the opening. The various speakers explained the origin of the traditional costumes and that each traditional costume carries its own history and meaning.
The exhibition was not only about the costumes of the slave era, but also about the costumes of the colonial era. Educational activities were also linked to this exhibition, so that visitors can learn more about each other’s culture.
After the formal part, they were given a tour together with the other guests. A cultural performance was performed by each population group.
