In connection with 145 years of Nieuw-Nickerie, the initiative was taken from the Institute of the First Lady to set up a memorial. The starting signal for the construction of this was given on Thursday 8 August, during the festivities concerning the anniversary of Nieuw-Nickerie.
The monument, which is being developed in collaboration with the Office of the President, will be shaped like a sailing ship, symbolizing the arrival of our ancestors and will function as a mini-center for education, recreation, history and culture. This monument is more than just a physical structure; it is a symbol of our shared commitment to preserving our history and culture. “It will be a place where we can cherish our memories and where the youth can learn the value of our shared heritage,” the First Lady said.
This project is being realised thanks to the efforts and dedication of many people involved, and in particular the donor who ensures that a monument can be built. This project is being realized thanks to the efforts and dedication of many people involved, and especially the donor who is ensuring that a monument can be built.
“Nickerie congratulations and let us look forward together to a future full of possibility and hope.”
