On September 14 First Lady Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry received a donation of reusable (sanitary) pads from doctor Padmini Murthy at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Suriname in New York. This was in the presence of ambassador Sunil Sitaldin. Dr. Murthy applauds the use of reusable pads because after her own observation as a doctor (a trained obstetrician and gynecologist), she observed that not every woman has access to or can afford sanitary pads.
The donation consisted of 250 completely assembled packages. One package includes: the reusable pads, underwear and a matching bag. It is the basic right of human beings, especially women, to have access to the most essential things. This also applies to sanitary towels.
The intention is to enter into a broad collaboration with doctor Murthy, so that several women can qualify for a set of reusable pads. The First Lady thanked Dr. Murthy very much for this donation and wished her much success in all the good things she is doing.
