On August 21, 2023, at the invitation of H.E. Ann Marie Davis, spouse of the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the First Lady attended a High Level Side Event at the 13th Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting of Women’s Affairs. The theme of this event was “Transformative Leadership for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment”.

During this event, various speakers, ranging from professionals, doctors, scientists and pastors, spoke about the “Gender Based Violence, Human Rights, Mental Health and Wellness”. Also, several calls have been made to all women to lift each other up to form a stronger front, because together we can overcome these challenges. In Suriname the First Lady also advocates women empowerment through various programs. In this time where we strive for gender equality, it is inevitable that women empower and support each other even more. She therefore also calls on the Surinamese woman to work together and to prevent division.
